New filling just fell – what should I do?
I had a cavity filled on Tuesday (20). I already had a previous post in this sealed cavity with amalgam, and my dentist removed the filling, the cavity was removed, and replaced it with a filler compound. I realized that this new load of wood chips and is dropped, leaving a large hole in the occlusal surface of my first molar. The gap is dark, which leads me to believe that there is still the amalgam in teeth (no way I developed massive collapse in a day) when the compound was established. Obviously, I'm calling my dentist first thing tomorrow to make an emergency appointment, but there anything I can do to protect my teeth in the meantime? Since the discovery of the hole Genty me brush regularly, using a needle-less syringe to remove fluoride containing Listerine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday, so this must be resolved before then. MIL THANKS!
I am a former dental technician / assistant, and I have been impressed with their technical jargon on your situation. I'm not sure what to say to you, because they are knowledgeable about all this, apparently. I would say you should go to the pharmacy and get what temorary grogery and filling of products that are available and apply for instruction. If amalgam is still present, I bring this to the attention of the dentist, as this is not "quality" of dentistry. Beyond that, I do not know depth or severity of the cavity and can not answer how it would affect its removal next Friday. Good luck!
