About oil extraction using hexane …?
Make it a clean out of the question … Can I remove the oil from seeds by crushing the seeds then put them into a filter paper located in a funnel whose mouth is in a flask? I will use the resulting oil as a sample to test against a type of bacteria … (my target paper is whether the extract as an antibacterial substance is possible) … I will achieve meaningful results?
Doubtful. Hexane is a highly nonpolar solvent. You probably will not remove much material in the wash either. To make this type of extraction, there is a device called a Soxhlet extractor. This can work continuously for a number of days and the sample is washed continuously with a small amount of solvent. However, Soxhlet extractor is modestly expensive and most likely would need an organic chemistry lab to do the experiment. It is particularly difficult and I did such experiments. You can use a strong solvent like acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or ethyl acetate. However, it is possible to extract more essential oils you want. If you not have access to an organic chemistry lab, which could suggest that you contact a local university. They might be able and willing to help. My concern is that it could have negative results, not because their idea is bad, but because they extract enough material of interest.
