What did people do 50-100 years ago when there were not all of these skin care products?

Can anyone comment on what types of products people used back 50-100 years ago? I just find it so strange that today we find it necessary to use all of these products, many without knowing the effects of them on our body, while many years ago people probably used natural products. Have you heard of any products used?

Well, in the past people uses aloe vera for moisturizing skin & treating sunburn, honey to nourishe skin & for thier anti-aging effect, and citrus fruits for exflolating properties.
