What is the difference between the air cooled and water cooled engine?

Which is better? What is the advantage and disadvantage of air and water rocked engine?

Air uses the cooling air flow directed to the fins of the cylinders and heads is the cooling medium: heat is transferred directly to air. Air enters either by natural convection (eg, a motorcycle) or by forced air (eg, air-cooled engine or a VW Porsche.) Water-cooled engine coolant circulates around the head + cylinder through a surrounding water jacket and radiator separately using a high efficiency for the final heat exchange air. (Marine engines are a bit different – they use water around their place, either directly or through a water-exchanger hot water.) air-cooled engines are simpler, lighter and easier to maintain because it does not have the "wet" the elements of cooling system. They excel in cold climates where freezing of the refrigerant can be a problem.
